THE TABOR TIMES

After several weeks of reading through a baby name book, looking at "Top 100 Baby Name" websites, and paying close attention to names in movie credits (seriously, we really did this!), we have finally decided on a name for baby girl Tabor. It's actually the very first name that we came up with, and no matter what other names we came up with, we just kept coming back to this one. So without further delay, her name will be Kendall Brooke Tabor, and we will call her Kendall. Ryan is already calling her by a nickname, Kendall Kat. We're really excited about announcing it, because we've been calling her by her name at home for about a month now. But we haven't told anyone until we knew we were 100% with both the first and middle names. I'm officially 27 weeks (or 6 months) and I'm a week away from starting the 3rd trimester. She is still very active, and she's getting to the size now where her kicks aren't always cute little nudges. After a long and hectic week with school, I got up early Friday morning and drove down to Mom and Dad's to go to St. Simons for the weekend. Mom and I had off of work on Friday, so we were able to start our beach weekend a little early. Lauren and Dad joined us a little later in the afternoon. Unfortunately Ryan wasn't able to come because of work, but obviously Easter Sunday is kind of a big deal when you work at a church! Our family had a nice, relaxing weekend together. We ate...a lot...and really good! We hung out on the front porch talking, and laughing at the quirky neighbor who was spazzing out on her tricycle. We spent time at the beach laying out and people watching. We also watched people windsurfing, kite surfing, and paddle boarding. On Sunday, we went to St. Simons Community Church for their Easter service. It was sort of a non-traditional Easter for our family, but we had a really great time. For years now, my mom's side of the family has celebrated Easter at Lake Oconee. It's a really great tradition and always a fun time. All of the "adults" (I'm still in the kid category for now - that probably changes once I have one of my own!) cook all sorts of amazing food. It's like a Thanksgiving feast at Easter time. Sweet potato souffle, rice casserole, squash casserole, green beans, turkey and ham, asparagus casserole, homemade rolls, apple cake, caramel cake, deviled eggs, and the list goes on. It's pure gluttony. This year we celebrated a week early because of vacations and Spring Break. There's been a slight lapse in my blogging lately because I'm nearing the end of my school semester. So any "free time" I have is being spent researching and writing papers. But May 3rd is oh-so-close! We did take a little relaxing weekend trip up to Ryan's parents and also went to the Masters tournament one day. It was an actual tournament day, so we weren't allowed to take a camera in. Therefore I have no pictures to share. But we had an awesome time. Several weeks ago, I officially went from the "I wonder if she's pregnant?" stage to the "Oh wow, she's definitely pregnant!" And it felt like it happened overnight. I like to say that little Tabor Tot had a growth spurt, not that I had one! I'll keep telling myself that. Here is a picture at 24 weeks. We went to the doctor last week and everything is still going great. When our nurse practitioner started searching for her heartbeat, she told us that the static sound we hear...

This is Neumbe Joyce. She is 13 years old and lives in the Kaptololwo Village of Uganda. She just recently started the 7th grade. Joyce lives with her uncle and several of his children. We're not sure what happened to her biological parents, but because there is a high rate of HIV, pneumonia, and malaria in this area, we imagine that it's something like this that took them from her. Joyce has a lot of responsibility around the house. She does things like gardening & farming, gathering firewood and carrying water. And even though these are not typical responsibilities of a 13-year old as we know them, she is a typical 13-year old in many ways. She has some trouble with certain subjects in school, loves to read, and swim, and listen to music. Ryan and I have been blessed to sponsor Joyce through Compassion International. The sponsorship allows Joyce to attend the local Compassion Child Development Center where she receives Bible teaching, health screening, health education...

Besides the six weeks of morning sickness that I experienced early on, I've really felt great being pregnant. So far during the 2nd trimester I've felt wonderful and have really had nothing to complain about...well...at least from a pregnancy standpoint. But apparently because I'm pregnant and my immune system isn't quite as strong as normal, I have been hit with some other not-so-fun sicknesses. Last week, I had round #2 of a stomach virus or food poisoning or something. (Round #1 was on New Year's Day. Way to start out the year with a bang!) This kind of thing is never fun...but it's extra miserable when you're pregnant and really NEED to be eating, drinking fluids, and keeping your energy up. I personally think it was food poisoning (the restaurant where I ate shall remain nameless), but others (my mom & Ryan) think that I contracted the stomach flu....again! Whatever it was that I had, it was pretty miserable for several days. So unfortunately, I...

Well, I warned Ryan that we would start to be more productive after we found out the baby's gender. And it all started in full swing on Saturday! Ryan and I met my mom & dad to look at baby furniture. Seemingly a fairly simple task, however there is so much to choose from that it's quite overwhelming. This was actually the 2nd time Ryan and I had looked at baby furniture. But unfortunately, no final decisions were made. However, we did pick out the bedding and color scheme for her room! We are so excited about it, and can't wait to start on her room. Here is a picture of what we picked out. We're going to paint the room a light beige/brown color, and have a family friend paint polka dots and ladybugs on the walls.   Another big decision we've been thinking about is the name.
